Hillside Cafe

My honey and I ate here for the first time on February 17. I can’t say enough good things!!! The food was fabulous - from the cream of crab soup, the crab cake, the filet - everything was outstanding. It was - hands down - the best crab cake I’ve ever had in my life! Our server, Darlene, was also absolutely phenomenal. She was so very kind and attentive - and thoroughly knowledgeable about the menu and all of the restaurant’s offerings. She was sure to make sure we knew all of our options, and pointed out all aspects to make our meal completely satisfying. We enjoyed our experience very much, and would recommend the Hillside Cafe to anyone looking for a fabulous meal!

Arrived on 2/10/24 at 6:15pm. The parking lot was not crowded (first red flag). We were promptly seated, where we proceeded to sit for over 15 minutes with no waiter or waitress taking our order or checking in on us. The hostess n staff seemed more engaged with talking in the back corner. We walked out and went to 83 dinner. Sad this used to be such a good place to eat years ago.

This was our first time here and it was incredible. The food was amazing and the restaurant wasn't loud and obnoxious. We went for my wife's father's birthday and it was great. We were able to have a conversation the whole time and not speak loudly from the noise. This is a place where we will definitely return because of this experience yesterday.

5 of us had decided to meet up here on a Saturday for dinner. Our server was Darla. She's a gem for sure! She rattled off the daily specials like there was going to be a test. She was very speedy and had the personality to boot! She was able to answer every question we had about the menu, and her suggestions were spot on. The kitchen staff must be amazing as well as our food was exactly as we ordered and was very tasty. We all had drinks from the bar to start, which has a great list. Appetizers followed. We had a crab pretzel (all in-house made), mozzarella sticks with marinara sauce, crab stuffed mushrooms, chili, a crock of French onion soup and bacon cheese fries. All were yummy and hot. Another round of drinks, sorry, I can't remember what all everyone had as we kept changing up. A basket of warm dinner rolls and butter were delivered right before our main entrees were served. I had their house special with a crab cake and filet and 2 sides. The crab cake had no fillers (except the needed and flavor). My steak was ordered medium rare and came out just as so. Someone got the stuffed flounder and said it was delicious. One couple got the dinner for 2 and ended up with a doggie bag as they were stuffed! They said it was delicious. The last person got the crab cake with a porterhouse and claimed it was outta this world! Another round of drinks and onto dessert. We chose cheese cake with caramel drizzle and bacon, peanut butter pie, triple chocolate cake, carrot cake, and sadly, I can't remember what the last selection was. Everyone was satisfied and stuffed, but not too stuffed for a hot adult beverage. We will all definitely be back, together, or separate.

My parents recommended this place due to eating here when they lived here over 20 years ago. So initially I was excited to eat here now that I live in this area. But I have to say the excitement was quickly pushed back when we got here. We waited at least a good 5 minutes before the hostess came to seat us. They were busy, but not busy that there were not plenty of seats available to seat us or other people. Food: the food was only 'ok' the prices and environment made me think that it was a 'little' more upscale food. But wrong, it truly reminded me of regular diner type of food with much higher prices. 16 dollars for our pretzel appetizer to give some perspective on the prices here. The service. It may have been a bad night for our server, but I still have to mention that the service was horrible. Slow, inattentive and just not a pleasant experience when we are waiting for things to be delivered and served. Just not a good experience overall, too expensive for the poor quality of food available.

In all my years I’ve never been so disrespected by an owner of a restaurant. Not only did we sit for well over an hour for our steaks watching three tables around us get food we then had the pleasure of meeting the “owner” who served chewy nasty break, crumby salads and bad attitude telling us “it is what it is” the hostess ghosts should be thankful I didn’t call the cops on her when she put her hands on me. I’ll be filing a complaint on the morning. Good luck in your ahitry service
